Elysian Dance Theater
We are a project-based dance company based in the Annapolis/Severna Park, MD area. EDT gets its name from the company's Artistic Director as well as from the Grecian lexicon for paradise/heaven, beautiful or creative, divinely inspired, peaceful and perfect, and the afterlife of immortal heroes.
Mission
To bring people together into community, provide opportunities for the surrounding community, and to experiment with dance and the creative arts. As a dance theater, EDT attempts to grapple with a wide range of topics while ever evolving the movement vocabulary using an array of props, sets and costumes. Our inclination is to create a safe environment for experimentation, exploration and performance.
Artistic Director
Elysia Merrill started EDT in 2021 after a request for concert choreography and some encouragement from local professional dancers. Elysia has a BFA in Dance & Choreography from Shenandoah University and has danced with companies around the world such as Motion X Dance DC, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, GX International (Philippines), BARE Dance Company (NYC), ARCOS Dance (Austin, TX), Ad Deum (Houston, TX), and more. Elysia has presented choreography at ACDFA and The Kennedy Center and has choreographed numerous musicals for local theaters. The Elysian Dance Theater has been a dream come to life for Elysia, and she hopes to share that magic with you.
